The ruling on praying behind an imam who is not proficient

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner (K. A. D.) from al-Hasa says: Your Eminence, I ask about the ruling on praying behind an imam who has many errors in his recitation of Surat al-Fatihah and other surahs of the Noble Qur'an, even though there are people who memorize more than he does. Please guide us in light of this?

Answer:
It is better for the one who is most proficient in recitation to lead the people. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The people should be lead by the one who is most well-Versed in recitation of the Book of Allahيؤم القوم أقرؤهم لكتاب الله
Sunan Ibn Majah 980Sahih (Darussalam)
meaning: the one whose recitation is best. This is the Sunnah, this is what is prescribed. But if his mispronunciation is slight, his prayer is valid. If his mispronunciation does not change the meaning, his prayer with them is valid. For example, if he recites "Al-hamdu lillahi Rabbil 'alamin" or "Al-hamdi lillahi Rabbil 'alamin," or "Ar-Rahman al-Raheem" or "Maliki yawm al-din," this does not harm, it does not change the meaning.
As for if he changes the meaning, such as "Iyyaki na'bud" or "Sirat alladhina an'amti" or "An'amtu 'alayhim," this is not permissible. He should not lead the people.
As for if his mispronunciation is slight and does not change the meaning, such as "Al-hamdi lillahi" or "Al-hamdu lillahi Rabbil 'alamin," or "Ar-Rahman al-Raheem" or "Ar-Rahmanu al-Raheem," this does not harm. But it is better for them to choose the one who is most proficient. The people of the mosque should put forward the one who is most proficient in recitation, due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The people should be lead by the one who is most well-Versed in recitation of the Book of Allahيؤم القوم أقرؤهم لكتاب الله
Sunan Ibn Majah 980Sahih (Darussalam)
And likewise, the one responsible for the imamate should put forward the one who is most proficient in recitation for the imamate. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you and bless you, may the Shaykh be respected.
