What is the ruling on reminding oneself of past sins?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Does reminding oneself of the sins a person used to commit in the past make him sinful?

Answer:
No, but leaving it off is better. One is not held accountable for the whispers of the self unless he speaks or acts. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allah, the Most High, has forgiven my followers what they contemplate on within themselves (i.e. evil thoughts) as long as they do not act upon or speak about them.إن الله تجاوز عن أمتي ما حدثت به أنفسها، ما لم تعمل، أو تتكلم
Bulugh al-Maram 8:133
This is from the mercy of Allah, and praise be to Allah.

The presenter: Praise be to Allah.

The Shaykh: Praise be to Allah.
