Exhortation to Tranquility in Prayer and Against Haste

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Umm Abdullah has a set of questions from Ha'il. She asks: What is the ruling on hurrying or being quick in prayer, given that the prayer is complete and nothing is missing from it?

Answer:
It is obligatory to be tranquil and still in prayer, based on the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to the one who prayed poorly:
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that a man entered the mosque and performed prayer, and the Prophet (ﷺ) was in a corner of the mosque. The man came and greeted him, and he said: “And also upon you. Go back and repeat your prayer, for you have not prayed.” So he went back and repeated his prayer, then he came and greeted the Prophet (ﷺ). He said: “And also upon you. Go back and repeat your prayer, for you have not prayed.” On the third occasion, the man said: “Teach me, O Messenger of Allah!” He said: “When you stand up to offer the prayer, perform ablution properly, then stand to face the prayer direction and say Allahu Akbar. Then recite whatever you can of Qur’an, and then bow until you can feel at ease bowing. Then stand up until you feel at ease standing, then prostrate until you feel at ease prostrating. Then raise your head until you are sitting up straight. Do that throughout your prayer.”إذا قمت إلى الصلاة، فأسبغ الوضوء، ثم اقرأ ما تيسر لك من القرآن
Sunan Ibn Majah 1060Sahih (Darussalam)
And in the other wording:
and then recite from the Qur'an what you know and then bow with calmness till you feel at ease, then rise from bowing till you stand straight. Afterwards prostrate calmly till you feel at ease and then raise (your head) and sit with Calmness till you feel at ease and then prostrate with calmness till you feel at ease in prostration and do the same in the whole of your prayer.
Sahih al-Bukhari 793
.
And because he neglected this, he was ordered to repeat it. Tranquility is necessary. So if the woman praying is tranquil, and the man is tranquil, there is no harm. If he is tranquil in the bowing, in the standing up after bowing, in the prostration, and between the two prostrations, but he does not prolong it and is merely tranquil, there is no harm. However, it is more perfect and more complete if his tranquility in his prostration, bowing, between the two prostrations, and after rising is clear and sufficient, meaning: he does not be lenient in this; because some people may consider their action to be tapping the prayer (nukr). If he is tranquil with a tranquility that makes him not be tapping the prayer, a clear tranquility, then there is no harm.

The presenter: May Allah reward you, O Shaykh.
