Ruling on Completing the Recitation of the Qur'an in a Month
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This sister, the questioner, your sister in Allah, Hila al-Murshid, says: “Your Eminence, I have a set of questions and I would like to inquire about them: Is completing the recitation of the Noble Qur'an once every month considered a religious innovation, given that I am not committed to doing so?”
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
As for what follows:
Completing the recitation of the Qur'an every month is a required and prescribed matter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded Abdullah ibn Amr to do so; he used to complete it every day, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told him to complete it every month, to read it every month. If a man or a woman sets a schedule to complete the recitation of the Qur'an every month, it is good and prescribed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded it. If he completes it in less time or more time, there is no harm. However, it is better not to go below seven days. If he has the capacity and wishes to complete it in seven days, there is nothing wrong with that. Yes.
