Is the second taslim in the prayer obligatory or a recommended practice?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on the second taslim: is it obligatory or a recommended practice?

Answer:
The correct view is that it is obligatory; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say the taslim to his right and to his left, and this is how the authentic hadiths came, and he said:
offer your prayers in the way you saw me offering my prayersصلُّوا كما رأيتُموني أُصلِّي
Sahih al-Bukhari 6008
.
The majority held that it is a recommended practice, but the stronger position is the view of those who said that the two taslims are an obligation and a pillar; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) preserved them, and he said:
offer your prayers in the way you saw me offering my prayersصلُّوا كما رأيتُموني أُصلِّي
Sahih al-Bukhari 6008
.
