Question:
The questioner says: O honorable Shaykh, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: narrated by Muslim. So when is it prescribed to ask for the washing? Is doubt sufficient, or is a preponderant opinion necessary?
Answer:
If he suspects that he is the one who cast the evil eye, he says to him: May Allah reward you with good, wash for me. If he washes his face and hands, that is sufficient. If he performs ablution and washes his face, hands, the inside of his garment, his knees, and the tips of his toes, that is more complete. Then the one who cast the evil eye—the one he suspected of casting it—sprinkles it on himself, and he is cured by the permission of Allah, if the evil eye is present, and there is no harm in it.
The one who is asked to do this should not be arrogant, but rather he should wash for them. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:. So if they accuse him of having the evil eye, he washes his face and hands and rinses his mouth for them, and it is beneficial by the permission of Allah.
