Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
His saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
There was a Prophet who drew linesكان نبيٌّ من الأنبياء يَخُطُّ
Sunan Abi Dawud 3909Sahih (Al-Albani)
?

Answer:
He draws lines. This is a form of taking an omen as a bad sign. Drawing lines, as mentioned previously:
Indeed, divination and taking an omen as a bad sign are from the practice of the pre-Islamic age of ignoranceإنَّ العيافة والطِّيرة من الجبت
, this is how fortune-tellers, astrologers, and soothsayers create confusion, as they draw lines on the ground and say: such and such will happen. A Prophet used to draw lines by the command of Allah; if He willed something by His command, his drawing would be known, and it would end with his passing (peace and blessings be upon him). No one knew what the Prophet drew. For this reason, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) warned against taking an omen as a bad sign, prohibited it, and informed that it is associating partners with Allah absolutely.
