The Ruling on Repeating the Prayer of Seeking Guidance

Our brother from Libya, Mandhir, also asks and says: Is the prayer of seeking guidance prescribed to be repeated, or is one time sufficient?
Answer: It is prescribed to be repeated until his heart is at ease and his chest opens up regarding what he desires. He should consult his trustworthy, well-known brothers in whom he believes there is good and who love good for him. He consults them after the prayer: he prays two units and seeks guidance from his Lord with what came in the hadith of Jabir—and the hadith is well known and found in *Riyad al-Saliheen* and elsewhere—then he consults after the supplication. If his chest opens up, that is fine; otherwise, he repeats the prayer and the consultation. And so on, two, three, four, or more times, until he attains tranquility and openness of heart, whether in marriage, buying a house, traveling to a country, establishing a partnership, or similar matters that are ambiguous to him. He seeks guidance from Allah in them and consults his good brothers, then he acts on what his heart finds peace with and what opens his chest after the seeking of guidance and the consultation. Yes.
