The question: This is a letter from (A. M. H. N.) from Khartoum, Sudan. He sent us a number of questions in this letter, and we are trying to present some of them to allow for other listeners. He says: Is this hadith authentic, and who is its narrator? It is narrated from Ali from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: ?
The answer: This hadith has no basis with the scholars of knowledge. Rather, it is one of the fabricated hadiths, one of the false hadiths that has no authentic chain of narration. It is not from the Sunnah to recite at the graves or between the graves. The Sunnah, when visiting the graves, is to say:Sunan Abi Dawud 3237Sahih (Al-Albani) or and to supplicate for them with forgiveness and mercy. This is the Sunnah. As for passing by and reciting the Qur'an over them, or between them, this has no basis.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
Whoever passes by the graveyards and recites "Say, He is Allah, the One" eleven times, then gives its reward to the dead, he is given a reward equal to the number of the dead.
