The Ruling on Donating Blood to Non-Muslims in Cases of Necessity

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question asks: Is it permissible for me to donate blood to a patient who is on the verge of death, and who is not of the religion of Islam?
Answer: I am not aware of any impediment in that; for Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says in His great Book:
Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward themلا يَنْهَاكُمُ اللَّهُ عَنِ الَّذِينَ لَمْ يُقَاتِلُوكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ وَلَمْ يُخْرِجُوكُمْ مِنْ دِيَارِكُمْ أَنْ تَبَرُّوهُمْ وَتُقْسِطُوا إِلَيْهِمْ
[Al-Mumtahanah:8]. So Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) informed us that He does not forbid us from being kind to the disbelievers who have not fought us or expelled us from our homes, and from doing good to them. The one in dire necessity is in urgent need of first aid. The story of Asma’ bint Abi Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with her) came, when she was a disbeliever, to her daughter Asma’ in Madinah during the truce between the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the people of Makkah, asking for charity. Asma’ sought the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) ruling in that matter, and he ruled that she should maintain the tie of kinship with her, saying:
Be kind to your motherصلي أمك
and she is a disbeliever. So if the one under a treaty or the disbeliever granted safe conduct, with whom we have no war, is in dire necessity for that, there is no harm in giving him blood as charity, just as one eats from carrion; he takes from the blood what suffices for his first aid. And you will be rewarded for that, for there is no blame on you for providing first aid to one who is in dire necessity for charity. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
