The ruling on a woman wearing the niqab while in the state of ihram and covering her face with something other than the niqab
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
One of the female listeners is asking about the niqab during Hajj: is it permissible or not? And if she is wearing the niqab and then places a light covering over the niqab, does this affect her Hajj?
Answer: A woman in Hajj does not wear the niqab, nor does she do so in 'Umrah during the state of ihram. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, as narrated by al-Bukhari in his Sahih from the hadith of Ibn 'Umar: The niqab is a thing made for the face, called a niqab. It is made for the face, and a woman wears it on her face. It has two openings for the eyes, or one opening for the eye, and it is called a niqab. She does not wear it in the state of ihram, but she covers her face with something else. It was reported from 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: So, likewise, if men approach a woman, she lowers her khimar or something else over her face. If they move away from her and no one is with her, she uncovers it. As for the niqab, she does not wear the one made for the face that is sewn and made to the size of the face, with an opening for the eye or openings for the eyes. She does not wear this in the state of ihram. Just as a man does not wear socks or leather socks in the state of ihram, yet he covers his legs with whatever he wishes from his izar or other clothing, or a cloak in the cold. But this is a specific thing: what is sewn to the size of the face, and what is sewn to the size of the leather socks. Neither the woman nor the man wears it. But she covers her face with the jilbab or the khimar. She covers her hands with the jilbab or something else; there is no harm in that. Just as a man does not wear a shirt or a turban, but he covers his body with the izar and the rida. He covers it with a blanket in the cold, placing it on his body for warmth. There is no harm in this. Yes.

ولا تنتقب المرأة ولا تلبس القفازينWe were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while we were in the state of ihram. When the riders approached us, one of us would lower her jilbab over her face—or she said: her khimar over her face—and when they moved away, we would uncover it.
