The Meaning of the Hadith: (Whoever Fears, Sets Out at Night)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
What is the meaning of the noble hadith: “Whoever fears, sets out at night”?
Answer: The hadith was narrated by al-Tirmidhi with a good chain from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
Whoever fears traveling at night - and whoever travels at night reaches his destination - Allah provides him with the most precious of goods, and indeed Allah's goods are but Paradise.من خاف أدلج ومن أدلج بلغ المنزل، ألا إن سلعة الله غالية ألا إن سلعة الله الجنة
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2450Da'if (Darussalam)
The meaning of “whoever fears” is that whoever fears being overtaken on the road and being caught by highway robbers sets out at night, meaning: he travels during the night with utmost energy and strength so that he completes the journey quickly and is safe from the danger of highway robbers. Al-Duljah is traveling at the beginning of the night, and it is said at the end of it; because traveling at the beginning and end of the night involves energy and strength for the journey. In another hadith:
and gain strength by worshipping in the mornings, the afternoons, and during the last hours of the nightsاستعينوا بالغدوة والروحة وشيء من الدلجة
Sahih al-Bukhari 39
So the meaning is: the believer takes his share of the road with strength and energy, and that is by being diligent in the obedience of Allah and cautious of the sins of Allah. So whoever fears the Fire and fears the anger of Allah is diligent in seeking, remains upright, and continues, and does not turn back, and does not become lazy, but rather he continues in the obedience of Allah and abandoning His sins until he meets his Lord , just as the one who fears in travel sets out at night, meaning: he strives in his night and day, he walks in the night and day at the appropriate times until he completes the journey and until he is far from the evil of the highway robbers. Then he said:
and whoever travels at night reaches his destinationومن أدلج بلغ المنزل
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2450Da'if (Darussalam)
Meaning: whoever travels with diligence, patience, and energy, and is patient with the hardship of the journey, reaches the destination by the permission of Allah in a time faster than the one who was negligent and slow. Then he explained that the merchandise of Allah is expensive, so it is worthy that the believer works, strives, is patient, and continues the journey until he attains this great merchandise, which is Paradise. And Allah (Exalted and Majestic) made its price the soul
Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradiseإِنَّ اللَّهَ اشْتَرَى مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُمْ بِأَنَّ لَهُمُ الْجَنَّةَ
[al-Tawbah: 111]. So the soul is the most precious thing for a person, so He (Exalted is He) bought it with Paradise. So Paradise is the great price for the one who is diligent, strives, is patient, and endures. He has sold his soul to Allah and delivered it to Allah in its struggle in His obedience and its use in His pleasure, and restraining it from His prohibitions, hoping to obtain the price, which is Paradise. And this price is with the One who is full, great, generous, and noble, (Blessed and Exalted is He). Yes.
