Question:
The first letter in this episode was sent to the program from the Iraqi Republic, by one of the listeners there. The needful Umm Muhammad, Umm Muhammad says in her letter: I am the mother of several children, some of whom are married and have families. My children are religious; they establish the prayer and fasting and maintain the matters of their religion.
The Shaykh: Praise be to Allah.
The presenter: However, they are very fond of raising birds in the house, and they spend their money and time on caring for them and watching them fly in the air for an hour of the day or more. I fear that this may be contrary to the Shari'ah. Please guide us and inform us. May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
I was greatly pleased by what you mentioned regarding their uprightness and their maintenance of their religion, so praise be to Allah.
As for raising birds, there is no blame on it, and there is nothing wrong with it, provided that it does not harm any of the people, whether neighbors or others. If they are permissible birds and do not harm any of the people, then there is nothing wrong with raising them, and there is nothing wrong with looking at them when they fly. All of this is without blame if it does not harm anyone.
However, if they do harm, they must clip their wings so that they do not harm the neighbors, and there is no blame in that.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
