Ruling on accepting a gift from someone who owes a debt

Question:
Abu Mu'adh, from Hail, says: A friend of mine had his service terminated from his job, and he was entitled to an end-of-service gratuity. He wanted to travel for a final departure, and I purchased tickets for him and his wife. He completed the six months in his housing, and asked me to give him the amount, and he would write me a legal power of attorney for the amount he was owed; because processing this amount requires at least two months, and if he stayed, he would have to pay for lodging and lose his travel tickets. So I gave him the full amount, and he wrote me a legal power of attorney for the full amount. Before his departure, he presented me with a gift. I did not know anything about this gift, either in terms of its type or its price, so I accepted it. Is there any sin on me for that?
Answer:
There is nothing on you, as long as there is no condition involved; it is from his own initiative, so there is no harm; because you were kind to him, and Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) loves that His servants reciprocate kindness, just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 1672Sahih (Al-Albani) So if a person does you a favor, and you give him a reward in return, there is no harm. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to borrow and reciprocate.
What is prohibited is the condition, where you say to him: I only lent to you on the condition that you give me an extra amount; this is not permissible. But if you lent to him and were kind to him, and then he gave you a gift, there is no blame on you. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
