The Method of Washing the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Shrouding Him, and Praying Over Him

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Ahmad Saleh al-Na'im from Jeddah, King Abdulaziz University, says: My question is about how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was washed, or shrouded, prayed over, and buried. May Allah guide you?

Answer:
The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was washed in his clothes. When the Companions differed over whether to strip him or not, they heard a caller from inside the house saying: “Wash the Messenger of Allah in his clothes.” So they washed him in his clothes, pouring water over him, and washed him in his clothes—(peace and blessings be upon him)—then they shrouded him in three white Yemeni cotton garments, meaning: made of cotton, with no shirt and no turban, as came in the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). Then the people prayed over him (peace and blessings be upon him) individually; no imam led them in the prayer over him, but rather the people prayed over him, each entering and praying over him in the mosque (peace and blessings be upon him). Yes.
