Does the regular voluntary prayer (Sunnah) suffice in place of the two rak'ahs of the greeting of the mosque?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The listener Ali Nasser al-Zayd, from the city of Hail, sent a question saying: When I enter the mosque to pray and perform the greeting of the mosque without intending it, is it the greeting of the mosque or the Sunnah of the obligatory prayer? For example, I enter the mosque for the Fajr prayer and pray two rak'ahs without intending anything. Does the greeting of the mosque combine with the Sunnah of the obligatory prayer, or is it better to perform each one separately?

Answer:
If you intend the Sunnah of the greeting and the Sunnah of Fajr, that suffices. Likewise, for the Dhuhr prayer, if you intend with the first two rak'ahs the Sunnah of the greeting and the regular voluntary prayer (Sunnah), that suffices. And likewise for the Asr prayer, if you pray four rak'ahs preceded by two rak'ahs, they take the place of the greeting, and praise be to Allah. So the intention covers all of them. Yes.

The presenter: And if he does not intend, Your Eminence the Shaykh?

The Shaykh: It suffices even if he does not intend. If he intends the Sunnah of Fajr, it suffices in place of the greeting. Likewise, if he prays with the intention of the pre-Dhuhr regular voluntary prayer (Sunnah), it suffices in place of the greeting. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
