The Ruling on the Prayer of Tasbih and the Hadith Narrated About It

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Your Eminence, Shaykh Abdul Aziz, we have a letter sent by the student Hamid Sharaf Muhammad, Sultan Aisa Badri, and Muhammad Yusuf Saigh, as well as Professor Uthman Uthman al-Sab'i and Professor Rashad (Q. M).
All of these people say: We request that our letter be presented to Your Eminence, Shaykh Abdul Aziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz, if that is possible.
We say: Yes, it is possible, and we are presenting it now.
They are asking about the Prayer of Tasbih, saying: What is the ruling on the Prayer of Tasbih, given that we have read in a school magazine an article in which the writer briefly states: O dear reader, lend your ear and be a witness to what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his uncle al-Abbas and his cousin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with them both), from Ikrimah from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib: "O my uncle, shall I give you something, shall I bestow upon you something, shall I love you, shall I do for you ten things? If you do them, Allah will forgive you your sins, the first and the last, the old and the new, the accidental and the intentional, the small and the large, the secret and the public. Ten things: that you pray four rak'ahs, reciting in each rak'ah the opening of the Book and a surah. When you finish the recitation in the first rak'ah, say while standing: Subhan Allah, wa al-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illa Allah, wa Allahu Akbar, fifteen times. Then bow and say it ten times while bowing. Then raise your head from the bowing and say it ten times. Then go down into prostration and say it ten times. Then raise your head from the prostration and say it ten times. Then prostrate again and say it ten times. Then raise your head from the prostration and say it ten times. That makes seventy-five in each rak'ah. Do this in all four rak'ahs. If you can do it once every day, do so. If you cannot, do it once every Friday. If you cannot, do it once every month. If you cannot, do it once every year. If you cannot, do it once in your lifetime." They said: Abu Dawud narrated it, or the writer said: Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibrahim ibn al-Hakam, and al-Tabarani narrated it. And he said: "Your sins will be forgiven, even if they are like the sand of 'Ajal and the number of the foam of the sea." The writer also says: If we know the authenticity of this hadith, we must not leave it off; rather, we must perform it, even if only once in a lifetime. The writer also says: I have performed this prayer several times and found joy, the pleasure of supplication, tranquility of the soul, and expansion of the chest, which I am unable to express. So try it, O my brother, and you will find, if Allah wills, what I found, and what is with Allah is better and more lasting.
We request clarification of this prayer, the authenticity of its hadith, and the position of Muslims regarding it, as it has been lost.
Knowing that it has begun to spread among the circles in our society in the Kingdom, thanks to this writer who revived it, may Allah guide him, and thank you.

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and whoever follows his guidance. As for what follows:
This prayer mentioned in this question is a matter in which the scholars have differed regarding the authenticity of its hadith, with two opinions. The stronger opinion is that it is not authentic, but rather fabricated, and not authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This is the relied-upon position regarding this prayer. All the established hadiths from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) explaining voluntary prayer, encouraging it, and exhorting to it, all contradict what came in this hadith and indicate that it is denounced and has no authenticity. This is the relied-upon position among the meticulous scholars.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was not reported to have performed it even once (peace and blessings be upon him), and it was not reported from the rest of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) either. If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said this, this prayer would have spread among the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) , and the Companions would have known it and narrated it.
The point is: that this narration is not authentic according to the meticulous scholars, and its hadith is fabricated, as a group of scholars have pointed out. We will return, if Allah wills, to this issue in a future night, where we will explain everything related to this prayer.

The presenter:-If Allah wills-.
