The Ruling on the Hadith: "The One Who Dies of a Stomach Ailment Is a Martyr, and the Drowned Person Is a Martyr"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner: The hadith "The one who dies of a stomach ailment is a martyr, and the drowned person is a martyr"—what is the authenticity of this, O honorable Shaykh?

Answer:
It is authentic. "The one who dies of a stomach ailment is a martyr," and likewise the one who is afflicted with leprosy. The drowned person is a martyr, and the one who dies in a fire is a martyr. All of this is from the grace of Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He); the reward of the martyrs is recorded for them; but they are washed, and the funeral prayer is performed for them.
As for the martyr of the battlefield who dies in battle in the cause of Allah, he is not washed, and the funeral prayer is not performed for him, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did with the slain at Uhud: he buried them in their blood, did not wash them, and did not perform the funeral prayer for them.
As for the one who dies due to drowning, due to fire, or due to a stomach ailment, he is washed, and the funeral prayer is performed for him, and he has the reward of a martyr. Yes.

The presenter: Allah is the Greatest! May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh.
