Question:
What are the most beneficial Islamic books that you, Your Eminence the Shaykh, would guide us to for raising children with an Islamic upbringing? And what is the correct approach in their upbringing?
Answer:
The correct approach is to teach the children their religion. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan ad-Daraqutni 3:5 So he teaches him his religion, he teaches him the oneness of Allah, he teaches him the prayer, and so on. When the child reaches seven years of age, he is commanded to pray, and when he reaches ten, he is struck for it if he neglects it. The same applies to the girl. They are taught the Islamic etiquettes at home, with their parents, with their siblings, and with the household members. They are taught even if they are small, so that they may benefit, for a small child may learn and benefit. He is taught to say the greeting of peace, to respect his mother, and to respect his father. They teach him so that he does not play around by breaking something, bringing in things, or ruining things, such as urinating in the food, pouring dirt on the food, or the like of that which may happen. He is taught everything that benefits him. His father teaches him, his mother teaches him, and others teach him, such as his older brothers, his maternal aunts, and his paternal aunts, and the like.
