Family Planning for the Purpose of Raising Children
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 2114 )
Q: He has eight children from two wives, and he strives to guide them in an Islamic manner. He says: The abundance of evil in this age puts a person in a struggle to raise his children, and he is in need of fortitude and patience. Is it permissible to use contraceptive pills or other means that stop the cycle of pregnancy and procreation for a period of time or not? Please issue a ruling for us.
A: The future is unknown, and no one knows the unknown except Allah. Therefore, a person does not know which of his children will bring him good: is it in those who have already been born and in whom he has striven to guide in a righteous direction, or in those whom Allah will grant him afterwards, whether male or female? So the Muslim should place his reliance on Allah, entrust his affairs to Him, and neither he nor his wife should use anything that prevents pregnancy, such as injections, pills, drinks, or the like. Perhaps Allah will grant him in the future offspring who will be the cause of his happiness in both this world and the Hereafter. Perhaps Allah will reward him for his reliance and dependence on Him by rectifying those He has blessed him with, and those He may bless him with in the future, and benefiting him with all of them in his religion and his worldly life, and protecting them from trials and the evils of people. Indeed, the hearts of the servants are between two fingers of the fingers of the Most Merciful, and He turns them as He wills. We ask Allah for you and for us success in righteous deeds and steadfastness upon the truth until we meet Him.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
