The Intended Meaning of "After the Prayer"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Among the questions of this questioner, Umm Maryam, she says: Many hadiths are reported:
After every prayerدبر كل صلاة
So, is the intended meaning after the completion of the prayer, or before the taslim?

Answer:
"After the prayer" means the end of it, before the taslim. This is the original meaning, just as the "dabr" (rear) of an animal is its back part. So, "after the prayer" is what comes before the taslim; the end of it, before the taslim. It is recommended to make du'a after reciting the tashahhud and the salawat upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and seeking refuge in Allah from the punishment of the Hellfire, from the punishment of the grave, from the trial of life and death, and from the trial of the Dajjal. It is recommended that one makes du'a after this, before the taslim, in both obligatory and voluntary prayers. If one makes du'a after the dhikr, after the taslim, after the 'Isha' prayer, there is no harm between him and his Lord. But the better is that the du'a is before the taslim, after reciting the tashahhud and the salawat upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and after seeking refuge in Allah from the punishment of the Hellfire, from the punishment of the grave, from the trial of life and death, and from the trial of the Dajjal. Because "dabr" means the end of a thing, and the "dabr" of the prayer is its end before the taslim, as in the hadith where he said to Mu'adh:
Never leave the recitation of this supplication after every prayer: 'O Allah, help me to remember You, thank You, and worship You perfectly.'لا تدعن دبر كل صلاة أن تقول: اللهم أعني على ذكرك وشكرك وحسن عبادتك
Bulugh al-Maram 2:219
This is before the taslim.
As for the other hadith:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say in the dabr of the prayer, after the taslim: "There is no god but Allah"كان النبي ﷺ يقول في دبر الصلاة بعد السلام: لا إله إلا الله
Its intended meaning is after the taslim, where one performs the prescribed dhikr. He says: "I seek Allah's forgiveness, I seek Allah's forgiveness, I seek Allah's forgiveness," meaning: after the taslim. "O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes peace. Blessed are You, O Owner of Majesty and Honor." Then he says: "There is no god but Allah," as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do after the taslim.
