The Prohibition of a Woman Seeking Divorce Without a Legitimate Reason

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Among the questions of this questioner, he says: What is the ruling of the Shari'ah, in your view, O Shaykh, regarding a wife seeking divorce from her husband without a legitimate reason? And what is your guidance for the two spouses?

Answer:
It is not permissible for a wife to seek divorce without a cause, and it is obligatory for her to have good conduct with her husband and not to seek divorce, except in the case of harm if he wrongs her or harms her, or if Allah has not written affection between them and she hates him; in that case, there is no harm in her seeking khul' (divorce at the wife's request for compensation). However, as long as there is nothing between them, it is better for her not to divorce, and to cooperate with her husband as Allah the Exalted said:
And live with them in kindnessوَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ
[Surat al-Nisa: 19]. The woman and the man cooperate in good, in doing what Allah has prescribed, and in leaving what Allah has forbidden, each helping the other. But if there are reasons, such that Allah has not written affection between them, and she seeks khul' or seeks divorce because there is no affection between them, or because he wrongs her or harms her by beating or otherwise, then there is no harm if it is for a reason. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.
