How to Dispose of Money Left Behind by Its Owner Who Did Not Return to It

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The first message in this episode is from our brother, the listener, 'Anan ibn 'Arrar ibn Hasan al-'Azmi, from al-Kharj. Our brother has two questions, which he wrote in his colloquial dialect. The first question is understood to be that some Yemenis worked for him, and then that Yemeni left, having one thousand riyals with our brother 'Anan. He asks how he should dispose of it, since the owner of the right has not returned to this day?

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
If the owner of the right is unknown, you should give it in charity on his behalf; you give it to some of the poor with the intention that it is on behalf of its owner. However, if he is known to you, you can send the amount to him at his address; you send it to him. Or, if you think he will return to you, be patient and do not rush until he returns to you. If you give it in charity and then he comes, he has the choice: if he wishes, he can ratify the charity and the reward will be his; if he wishes, he can claim his right, and you give him his right, and the reward is yours for what you gave in charity. And success is from Allah. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good. He says: This person has been absent for eight years, Your Eminence?

The Shaykh: As long as it is so, it is prescribed for you to give it in charity; because it is most likely that he will not come. And as long as you do not know his location or his address, give the amount in charity to the poor or in some charitable projects with the intention that it is on behalf of its owner, and Allah will give him his reward, Glorified and Exalted is He. Yes.

The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
