Ruling on giving charity from the money of an absent person with the intention of reward for the owner of the money

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q219: The questioner says: I have a Muslim worker who was absent from work, and I searched for him but could not find him. He had a sum of money with me, so I gave it away as charity on his behalf with the intention of reward for him. Is this action permissible?
A219: There is nothing wrong with that, but if he comes to you on any day in the future asking for his wages, you should give him the choice. You say: Do you want the charity to proceed and its reward to be yours, or do you want me to give you the money and your wages, and the reward of the charity to be mine? If he chooses one of the two, he has that right.
