The ruling on supplication and charity for a deceased person who did not pray

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We move on to a message received by the program from Nineveh in Iraq, sent by one of the listeners. The listener, Umm Hudhayl from Iraq, says: My husband was martyred in the war on the tenth day of the blessed month of Ramadan. He did not pray, but he intended to pray after the war ended. However, he was martyred before he prayed. Is it permissible for me to pray on his behalf? I spend a great deal hoping for reward for him. Will the expenses I spend from my salary reach him, and not from the salary of my only daughter, who is two years old? Some people say: It is not permissible for you to spend, because you have a dependent in your care. I am not in need, so please guide us. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The one who dies while not praying is not prayed for, and prayer is not performed by one person on behalf of another. Prayer is not done for anyone. As for the one who dies while not praying, it was mentioned in the previous answer that he is a disbeliever—we ask Allah for safety. Abandoning prayer is major shirk (associating partners with Allah) according to the correct view, even if he did not deny its obligation. His intention to pray in the future is not an excuse for him. It is obligatory to hasten to pray. So do not give charity on his behalf, do not pray for him, and do not supplicate for him as long as he died abandoning prayer—we seek refuge in Allah from that. Do not spend from the orphan’s money in his right, not for him and not for anyone else. Preserve the orphan’s money for her, make it grow for her, or give it to a good merchant to make it grow for her. Give charity from your own money.

The presenter: For this... or for herself?

The Shaykh: As for the husband who died in this state, abandoning prayer, do not give charity on his behalf, do not supplicate for him, and do not seek forgiveness for him; because he died in disbelief. We ask Allah for safety.
As for charity from your money in the ways of righteousness for the poor and the needy, it is not for your husband, but for yourself. It is for your benefit. Give charity to the poor and the needy in building a mosque, in jihad in the path of Allah. All of this is a reward for you. As for him, no. As long as he died while not praying, do not give charity on his behalf.
