Advice to the Sufi Orders to Follow the Book and the Sunnah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
There are a great many orders, such as the Barmili order, the Shadhili order, the Dasuqi order, and the Tijani order, among others. Among them is the group known as the Supporters of the Muhammadan Sunnah, which is a group of tawhid (the oneness of Allah) that follows the Sunnah of the Messenger. I ask the Shaykh to please give an extended piece of advice to the sheikhs and assistants of these orders so that they may walk in the path of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), as stated in the hadith of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
my nation will split into seventy-two, all of which will be in Hell apart from oneستفترق أمتي إلى ثلاث وسبعين فرقة كلها في النار إلا واحدة
Sunan Ibn Majah 3993Sahih (Darussalam)
.

Answer:
The Sufi orders are countless, and they increase over time. Most of them contain more evil, corruption, and religious innovations than Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) can count. Every order has a share of falsehood and a share of religious innovations, though they vary, with some being worse than others and some more vile than others. It is obligatory for all Sufis to return to Allah, to follow the path of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), to take what came in the Book and the Sunnah, and to proceed according to the methodology of the Salaf (the earliest generations) of the Ummah, namely the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and those who followed them with excellence, by obeying the commands, leaving the prohibitions, standing by the limits of Allah, and not inventing things that Allah has not legislated.
They have no right to establish orders of worship that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions did not practice. Rather, they must hold themselves accountable and abandon everything in their rituals, their social dhikr (the remembrance of Allah), and other things they have introduced into the religion that contradicts the pure Shari'ah (Islamic sacred law), whether they are from the early period in the third and fourth centuries or from the modern era.
It is obligatory for all Muslims to adhere to the path with which Allah sent His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which is tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and sincerity to Him, obeying the commands and leaving the prohibitions, outwardly and inwardly. They must adhere to this and beware of the religious innovations and superstitions that people have introduced. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said in an authentic hadith:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.من عمل عملًا ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
, and he said in his Friday sermon:
The best of the speech is embodied in the Book of Allah, and the best of the guidance is the guidance given by Muhammad. And the most evil affairs are their innovations; and every innovation is error.إن خير الحديث كتاب الله، وإن خير الهدي هدي محمد ﷺ وشر الأمور محدثاتها، وكل بدعة ضلالة
Sahih Muslim 867a
. Whether the orders introduced by people are old or new, it is obligatory to abandon them and to embrace the path that the Muslims followed in his time (peace and blessings be upon him) until this day, which is following the Book and the Sunnah and being upright in the religion of Allah as it came from Allah and His Messenger, without addition or subtraction.
As for inventing new rituals or methods that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions did not practice, this is not permissible. This is what is called bid'ah (religious innovation).
The Supporters of the Sunnah are among the best of people in Egypt and in Sudan. The Supporters of the Sunnah are those who call to adhering to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). They are not among the misguided sects, but rather they are among the group that follows the Book and the Sunnah. For this reason, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the sects:
my nation will split into seventy-two, all of which will be in Hell apart from oneستفترق أمتي على ثلاث وسبعين فرقة كلها في النار إلا واحدة
Sunan Ibn Majah 3993Sahih (Darussalam)
. It was said: Who are they, O Messenger of Allah? He said:
The group.الجماعة
, meaning those who agreed upon the truth and walked in the path of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). They are the Companions and those who followed their way. In another narration:
They are those who are upon what I and my Companions are upon.هم من كان على ما أنا عليه وأصحابي

Therefore, it is obligatory for Muslims to adhere to this path, which is the path of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), by following the commands and leaving the prohibitions, and not inventing any new things, whether in dhikr (the remembrance of Allah), in prayers, in fasting, or otherwise. Rather, they must proceed according to what the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and those who followed them with excellence did. This is the truth.
When people divided, religious innovations and desires multiplied among them, and each person invented a method for himself from his own pocket that Allah did not legislate for him. For this reason, the orders multiplied until they reached seventy-two sects, excluding the saved sect. Among them are the Jahmiyyah (a sect that denied the divine attributes), the Mu'tazilah (a rationalist theological sect), the Rafidah (the Twelver Shi'ah), and many other groups, all of which fall within these misguided sects. Therefore, the believer must beware of every religious innovation that people have introduced, and must adhere to the path of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the path of his Companions, and what the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and those who followed them with excellence did, by obeying the commands, leaving the prohibitions, standing by the limits of Allah, and not inventing anything that has no basis in the Shari'ah. And Allah is the One to be sought for help. Yes.
