The Ruling on Eating from the Wealth of One Who Does Not Pray

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner says: If there is a person, one of our relatives, who does not pray, is it permissible for us to eat from his wealth? And should we respond to his invitation if he invites us to occasions?

Answer:
The one who does not pray deserves to be boycotted; he should be boycotted. He should be advised and directed to good, and commanded to obey Allah. If he persists and does not pray, he is to be boycotted; he deserves to be boycotted because he has abandoned a great matter, a great obligation. Indeed, prayer is the pillar of Islam, and it is obligatory for him to pray in the mosque with the people. If he is lax in this, he must be boycotted. If he abandons it, it is disbelief, may Allah protect us from that. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Between a man and disbelief and shirk (associating partners with Allah) is the abandonment of prayer.بين الرجل وبين الكفر والشرك ترك الصلاة
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The covenant that distinguishes between us and them is prayer; so whoever leaves it, he has committed Kufr.العهد الذي بيننا وبينهم الصلاة فمن تركها فقد كفر
Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam)
.
If he prays it in his house, he has sinned, it is a sin; because it is obligatory for him to pray it with the people in the mosque, except for one who has an excuse, such as a sick person. This is due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever hears the call for prayer and and does not come (to the mosque for prayer), his prayer will not be accepted from him, unless he has a (legitimate) excuse.من سمع النداء فلم يأتِ فلا صلاة له إلا من عذر
Bulugh al-Maram 2:308
. It was said to Ibn Abbas: What is the excuse? He said: Fear or illness. And in the authentic collections: A blind man said: O Messenger of Allah! I have no guide to lead me to the mosque, so do I have a dispensation to pray in my house? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:
Do you hear the call to prayer?هل تسمع النداء بالصلاة؟
Sahih Muslim 653
. He said: Yes. He said:
Then respond.فأجب
. This blind man had no guide to lead him, and yet he said to him: Respond, meaning: Seek someone to guide you and respond to the prayer in the mosque. So attending it in the mosque is obligatory, and abandoning that is a sin. As for abandoning it entirely, that he does not pray, this is major shirk, I seek refuge in Allah, according to the correct opinion of the scholars, even if he does not deny its obligation. As for the one who denies its obligation, he is a disbeliever according to all scholars, may Allah protect us from that.

The presenter: May Allah reward you, O Shaykh.
