Question:
This questioner, Nā'ilah from Riyadh, mentions in her first question and says: Recently, it has spread in schools and various educational institutions that if one of the female students or others is afflicted by the evil eye, i.e., envy, then water in bottles—for example, a box of health water—is circulated among all the female students in the classroom, and they are asked to blow into these bottles, each student doing so. Usually, this matter is compulsory. What is the opinion of the Shari'ah, in your view, O Shaykh, regarding this?
Answer:
There is no harm in this, but it should not be compulsory. It should be that she is asked to blow into it, perhaps Allah will benefit through that. She blows into it and says: “O Allah, heal her. O Allah, grant her well-being. O Allah, heal him. O Allah, grant him well-being.” There is no harm in this. Reciting over water is beneficial by the permission of Allah. And if she is afflicted by the evil eye and fears that it is from her classmates, there is nothing wrong with it, and praise be to Allah.
And if they wash their hands and faces in a vessel and she drinks from it and sprinkles it on herself, this is good. The evil eye strikes without one’s choice; the evil eye comes from a person without his choice. So if she fears that the evil eye has struck from them and something has afflicted her that she thinks is the evil eye from her classmates, and they wash their faces for her and their hands, and she drinks from it and sprinkles it on herself, or they recite for her, all of this is good, if Allah wills. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you and bless you, O Shaykh.
