Question:
Your Eminence! Some people use oaths excessively. How do you guide them, O Shaykh?

Answer:
It is obligatory for the believer to guard his tongue and to strive to reduce his oaths. Our Lord says:
And keep your oathsوَاحْفَظُوا أَيْمَانَكُمْ
[Al-Ma'idah: 89], and in the hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There are three to whom Allah will not speak on the Day of Resurrection nor will He look at them or purify them, and theirs will be a painful tormentثلاثة لا يكلمهم الله يوم القيامة، ولا ينظر إليهم، ولا يزكيهم، ولهم عذاب أليم: أشيمط زان
Sunan Ibn Majah 2208Sahih (Darussalam)
meaning: an old man, meaning an elderly man, who commits fornication
and a poor man who is arrogantوعائل مستكبر
meaning: a poor man who is arrogant -
and a man who made his merchandise such that he does not buy except with an oath and does not sell except with an oathورجل جعل الله بضاعته لا يشتري إلا بيمينه ولا يبيع إلا بيمينه
The believer should guard his oath and not speak except with certainty, and not swear except with certainty; so that he does not fall into lying. We ask Allah for safety and well-being. Yes.
