What is the advice for the youth regarding how they spend their time?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
How do we guide the youth to utilize all their time in what pleases Allah, in speech and action, knowing that there are those who oppose this? They say: "Not everything is religion," or: "It is not required that we adhere to this in all of life." They separate between religion and worldly life. What is your opinion, O your Excellency?

Answer:
Advice for the youth and for those who are not youth is necessary; for when advice is neglected, the desires of the soul, the love of the immediate, the love of comfort, and the love of desires prevail. Advice is like the whips by which a person strives and is led to good; it softens his heart and reminds him of the Hereafter. So advice, guidance, and calling to Allah are necessary, otherwise life is lost in heedlessness and desires.
For this reason, Allah prescribed the reminder and called to it, saying, the Exalted:
And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers.
[al-Dhariyat:55], and He said:
So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder.
[al-Ghashiyah:21],
So remind, if the reminder should benefit;
[al-A'la:9],
But if they had done what they were instructed, it would have been better for them and a firmer position [for them in faith]. (67) And then We would have given them from Us a great reward.
[An-Nisa 4:66-67]
and We would have guided them to a straight path [al-Nisa':66-68].
So the lesson and the reminder contain great good and great benefit. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Religion is advice.
, thus the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Religion is advice, religion is advice.
, repeating it three times. It was said: "For whom, O Messenger of Allah?" He said:
To Allah, to His Book, To His Messenger, and to the leaders of the Muslims and their masses.
Sahih Muslim 55a
. Muslim narrated it without the repetition, but it came repeated in another narration from Abu Dawud and others; to indicate its importance.
So advice is necessary and indispensable, but along with advice, there must be some degree of heedlessness. In the hadith of Hanzahalah, when he entered upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "O Messenger of Allah, Hanzahalah has become a hypocrite." He said:
Why is that? !
. He said: "We are with you, and you remind us of Paradise—or he said: the Hereafter—as if we see it with our eyes; so our hearts soften. But when we leave, we deal with women, children, and property, and we forget much." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If you were to persist in what you are when you are with me, the angels would greet you on your paths and on your beds. But O Hanzahalah, an hour and an hour.
. So there must be some of the preoccupations of this world: seeking provision, talking with family and children, buying and selling, and the like.
So the hours in which one seeks provision and sits with family are considered engagement that does not harm the servant, as long as he does not commit sin in them, as long as he does not mix them with what is forbidden: backbiting, talebearing, lying, false testimony, and other things that Allah has forbidden.
As for calling to Allah, reminding, advising, and being careful to preserve time, this is a required matter. And with all this, there must be something; there must be hours for the needs of the person, which do not harm him and may help him in good.
Therefore, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
But an hour and an hour.
, meaning: an hour for religion, work, and diligence, and an hour for the world and its works: trade, agriculture, and other things that occur with family and children. And Allah is the One sought for help.
