The ruling on performing the 'aqiqah with one sheep and distributing chickens to the poor in place of the other

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This is a questioner for the program—Abu Yusuf—who says: “Your Eminence, I did not slaughter two sheep when I was blessed with a newborn, but only one sheep. With the value of the second sheep, I bought chickens and distributed them to the poor. Is this permissible?”

Answer:
This is sufficient. The Sunnah is two sheep for a male child, so it is recommended for you to slaughter another sheep. The chickens are sufficient, but it is recommended for you to buy another one to slaughter, even if a year or two has passed; because the Sunnah for a boy is two slaughtered sheep, and for a girl, one. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah preserve you.
