Guidance for one who does not feel comfort in his prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I pray, praise be to Allah, but I feel distress and discomfort in the prayer, so please guide us, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
This is one of the diseases of the heart, and the most likely cause is sins and heedlessness. The one who does not find his chest opening up to the prayer has fallen into this due to his heedlessness, turning away, and sins. Let him repent to Allah, let him strive against his self, let him ask his Lord for success, and let him be present with his heart in the prayer. The prayer is comfort and the coolness of the eye. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
my comfort has been provided in prayerجُعِلَتْ قُرَّةُ عيني في الصَّلاة
Sunan an-Nasa'i 3940Hasan (Darussalam)
, so it is the coolness of the eye. And he said to Bilal:
Establish [the prayer], give us relief through the prayerأقم، أرحنا بالصلاة
.
So the prayer is the comfort of hearts, the comfort of consciences, and the coolness of the eye. When the believer enters into it, he finds comfort in it, his heart becomes tranquil, and his eye is cooled; because it is the pillar of Islam, and because he pleases his Lord in it, and he stands before Him in humility. So it is the comfort of hearts, the delight of souls, and the coolness of the eye.
So when a person feels distress in it, let him know that this is a calamity, and let him treat it by repenting to Allah, and asking Him for success, guidance, and assistance. And Allah accepts the repentance of those who repent, (Exalted and Majestic is He).
