Ruling on Marrying a Woman from the People of the Book

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
It is well known that marrying a woman from the People of the Book is permissible, but some scholars prohibit it in the present time; because they have become polytheists, they worship Jesus and call upon him besides Allah, and some of them do not adhere to the distorted religion. What is the ruling in this matter?

Answer:
The original principle is that what was established remains as it was. If she is a Christian who professes Christianity and claims affiliation with Christianity, and she is a chaste woman known for her chastity, not for fornication, known for her chastity; because Allah only mentioned chaste women, then it is permissible. However, leaving it is better.
For this reason, 'Umar and a group disliked it; out of fear for the Muslims that she might lead them to Christianity, or lead their children to it. And if this was the case in the time of 'Umar, how much more so in our time?
So the danger is great, and what should be done is that he should never marry her; because even if she is permissible, her evil is great; due to their wickedness, and the weakness of the Muslim's faith in most cases, and the danger in this for him and his offspring. So the safest and most appropriate for him is not to marry her at all; because of the great danger in that.
