The Ruling on Mutilating and Disfiguring Combatants

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a combatant kills and disfigures, is the same done to him as he did?

Answer:
This is for the one in authority: if he wishes, he kills him; if he wishes, he cuts off his hand and foot; if he wishes, he crucifies him. Mutilation is of the same kind as the act for which it is done, just as he mutilated. Wounds are subject to retaliation. If the one in authority sees fit to mutilate him, he mutilates him; if he sees fit to kill him, he kills him; if he sees fit to crucify him, he crucifies him; and if he sees fit to cut off his hand and foot, he does so. When it was reported to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that a Jew had crushed the head of a girl, he had his head crushed; because it is retaliation.
