The Ruling on Congratulating Disbelievers on Their Festivals

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
In the coming days, the disbelievers will celebrate their festivals, which include Christmas, New Year’s Day, and others. I work in a government department where some Christians have been granted leave to attend and hold their festivals. I have seen in the letters addressed to them congratulations and blessings from some people, including a Muslim man. Also, greeting cards are distributed and printed in the country and sold in many public bookstores. Is there any advice regarding this, and an explanation of the Islamic ruling? May Allah grant you success and guide your steps.

Answer:
This is not permissible. Congratulating disbelievers on their festivals, whether verbally, by telephone, or through printed papers, all of this is blameworthy and not permissible for a Muslim, neither in the lands of Islam nor in lands other than the lands of Islam. One should not congratulate them on their festivals, nor participate in them, nor work with them in them or assist them in them; because this is assisting in falsehood. So, one should not participate with them, nor assist them, nor congratulate them on their false festivals.
