The Ruling on Being Named Muhsin

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We return in this episode to the letter of our listener, Muhsin Abdul Aziz Abdul Wahid, from the Arab Republic of Egypt, who resides in Iraq. We presented some of his questions in a previous episode, and in this episode he says: My name is Muhsin, and one of the students of knowledge said that this name is not permissible, and advised me to change my name. What is your opinion? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Yes, some hadiths indicate that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is named al-Muhsin (the Doer of Good), so there is no harm in that, if Allah wills. It has come in a good hadith, with no objection, that the name al-Muhsin is applied to Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He); He is the Doer of Goodto all of His servants (Exalted and Majestic is He). So "Abd al-Muhsin" (Servant of the Doer of Good) is fine; this is the correct view. Yes.

The presenter: Is his name Muhsin and not Abdul Muhsin?

The Shaykh: Is his name Muhsin?

The presenter: Yes.
The Shaykh: There is no harm either. There is no harm with Muhsin; because this is among the names by which one is named, like Aziz (The Mighty), like Sami' (The All-Hearing), like the name Halim (The Forbearing), and the like of them; because the names of Allah are not prohibited with regard to the created beings except what is specific to Him, Glorified and Exalted, such as Al-Khalaq (The Creator), Ar-Razzaq (The Provider), Malik al-Mulk (The Owner of Sovereignty), Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim (The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy), Ar-Rahman, and the like of that. As for what is shared by others, the servant has what is appropriate for him and Allah has what is appropriate for Him. So it is said of a person: Halim (Forbearing), and it is said: Ra'uf (The Compassionate), and it is said: Rahim (The Merciful), as Allah said regarding His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him):
to the believers is kind and merciful.بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ
[At-Tawbah: 128], (peace and blessings be upon him). And so it is with As-Sami' (The All-Hearing) and Al-Basir (The All-Seeing), in the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic:
(1) Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned? (2) Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing.
[Al-Insan: 1-2], He named him As-Sami' (The All-Hearing) and Al-Basir (The All-Seeing).
So the result is that the created being is named with some of the names of Allah that are not specific to Him, Glorified and Exalted, such as As-Sami' (The All-Hearing), Al-Basir (The All-Seeing), Al-Qadir (The All-Powerful), Al-Halim (The Forbearing), Ar-Ra'uf (The Compassionate), Ar-Rahim (The Merciful), and the like of that. So Al-Muhsin (The Doer of Good) is among that. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
