Ruling on building graves out of brick and other materials

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible to build graves out of brick, cement, and iron?

Answer:
It is not permissible to build graves; rather, they should be dug and not built; because it is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he prohibited building graves, prohibiting plastering them, and prohibiting building upon them.
However, a hole is dug in the ground, and the deceased is buried in it. A niche is made in the direction of the qiblah, sized to fit the deceased. The grave should be deep enough to be half the height of a man, so that it is far from wild beasts and dogs, and further from the foul odors that may come out of the grave. If dire necessity calls for building, if dire necessity arises because the ground is hard and they cannot dig, and they do not have land in which to dig, then there is no harm in placing the body between stones. Stones are gathered for it and placed between them, then slabs or the like are placed on top to cover it from wild beasts and dogs and the like. Stones are placed on it to cover it from that, according to one's ability, without the need for construction. It is merely stones secured with clay or plaster or the like, so that dogs and the like do not reach it. Yes.
