Which controls the other: the term of life or health?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We return in this episode to a letter from one of our female listeners from Jubail Industrial City. She says: Your sister Umm Hazm is Egyptian. We presented some of her questions in a previous episode, and in this episode she asks your Eminence and says: Which controls the other: the term of life or health?

Answer:
The matter is with Allah in this. The matter is with Allah. No one has control over this or that; rather, the matter returns to the decree and wisdom of Allah. So whoever Allah decrees complete health and its continuation for, that happens, and whoever Allah decrees illness for, that happens. Everything is by His decree and destiny.
Everything is by decree - even incapacity and abilityكل شيء بقدر حتى العجز والكيس
Muwatta Malik 46:4

He, the Exalted and Majestic, says:
No disaster strikes except by permission of Allah. And whoever believes in Allah - He will guide his heart. And Allah is Knowing of all things.
[Al-Taghabun: 11], and He, the Exalted, says:
No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being - indeed that, for Allah, is easy -مَا أَصَابَ مِنْ مُصِيبَةٍ فِي الأَرْضِ وَلا فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ إِلَّا فِي كِتَابٍ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ نَبْرَأَهَا إِنَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَى اللَّهِ يَسِيرٌ
[Al-Hadid: 22].
So if illness descends, it is by the will of Allah, and Allah has prescribed its treatment and taking the means that remove it, just as He has prescribed the means that protect against it before it occurs, by avoiding the causes of evil and staying away from the causes of evil; so one avoids what harms him and stays away from what harms him by the means Allah has prescribed, just as one takes the means of health and well-being by the means Allah has prescribed. One eats and drinks and avoids what harms him, for Allah has commanded that, and one treats illnesses, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
so treat yourselves medically, but use nothing unlawfulعباد الله تداووا ولا تداووا بحرام
Sunan Abi Dawud 3874Da'if (Al-Albani)
, and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Allah has not sent down a disease without sending down a cure for it; He has made it known to those who know it and unknown to those who do not know itما أنزل الله داءً إلا أنزل له شفاء، علمه من علمه، وجهله من جهله
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 17:517
.
So if Allah wills the dominance of illness, the illness continues and it is no longer expected to be cured, and if Allah wills the continuation of health, health continues and illness is less. A person may be tested with this and that, with this at one time and that at another, and especially the Muslim is tested with illnesses so that Allah may expiate his sins thereby and remove his bad deeds, as in the authentic hadith where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allah afflicts the one for whom He desires good.من يرد الله به خيرًا يصب منه
Muwatta Malik 50:7
, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
No worry or grief, no fatigue or pain, no harm or affliction strikes a Muslim except that Allah expiates his sins thereby, even a thorn.ما أصاب المسلم من هم ولا غم، ولا نصب ولا وصب، ولا أذى إلا كفر الله به من خطاياه حتى الشوكة
, yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good and do you good.
