Using Lawful Means to Achieve Pregnancy

Question:
The first message in this episode is from one of our female listeners. The sender writes:
Amal Muhammad Abdul Aziz, Arab Republic of Egypt, Alexandria. Our sister’s message is somewhat long, so I will read it as it was received. She says:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.
I request your guidance in answering this question: I am a woman who has been married for two years and have not yet been blessed with children. My husband and I went to specialist doctors, and it was confirmed that we are both healthy, with no cause for the issue on either of our parts. Some relatives advised me to try some folk remedies, which they believe cause pregnancy. Among them was: sitting on the placenta of a woman after she gives birth, but I refused.
The Shaykh: And among them...
The presenter: And among them: sitting on the placenta of a woman after she gives birth, but I refused to do such things or their like, out of fear of angering Allah , and because I know that this is shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah .
Finally, they brought me a plant from al-Madinah al-Munawwarah called "Kaff Maryam" (Mary’s Hand). They said it should be placed in water at sunset on the last Friday night of the lunar month, then its water should be taken before sunset on Friday, and used to wash parts of the body, while reciting the Noble Qur’an and making du'a' (supplication) to Allah . They assured me that women had used it and were then blessed by Allah with offspring. So I did that, and I do not know if this angers Allah or not?
Knowing that I am very eager not to do anything that angers Allah, the question is:
Second: I ask you to advise me of any action by which I can draw near to Allah so that He accepts the du'a' (supplication) and blesses us with righteous offspring. May Allah reward you with good.
Second: I hope you will advise me with any matter or any deed by which I can draw near to Allah so that He will accept the supplication and grant us righteous offspring. May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
I ask Allah to increase you, O sister in Allah, in good, beneficial knowledge, righteous deeds, desire for what is with Allah, and caution against the causes of His anger.
There is no doubt that it is obligatory (wajib) for every person of legal age, male or female, to fear Allah, be cautious of the causes of anger, and not engage in anything that Allah has forbidden. You are to be commended for your pursuit of good and your eagerness for what Allah has permitted.
There is no doubt that what was told to you about sitting on the placenta of a woman in postpartum bleeding has no basis, whether they meant the blood that came from her, or intended something else like the placenta, or otherwise. All of this has no basis.
As for treating oneself with a plant from al-Madinah or elsewhere, if it is tried and proves beneficial, there is no harm in it. If a plant is found in al-Madinah or elsewhere that a woman uses by smoking it, or by crushing it and washing the body or part of the body with it, or by drinking it, or otherwise, there is no harm in it, if it is tried and proves beneficial. This is because treatment is permissible (ja'iz), indeed prescribed (mashru'), and there is no blame in treating oneself with what Allah has permitted:Sunan Abi Dawud 3874Da'if (Al-Albani) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed treatment for the Ummah, so there is no harm in it if a plant is found that has been tried and found to be a cause of pregnancy, or if another treatment is found from what Allah has permitted, such as cauterizing part of the body, or drinking something Allah has permitted, or eating fruit Allah has permitted, or the like of that which has been tried and proven beneficial and is permissible.
As for du'a' (supplication), the believer should be persistent in du'a'. You and your husband, each of you is prescribed to be persistent in du'a', asking Allah to grant you righteous offspring, especially in times of response, such as the last part of the night, the middle of the night, such as the end of the prayer before the taslim (closing salam), such as the time of sujud (prostration), during sujud in prayer, for it is a place of du'a'. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 875Sahih (Al-Albani) And if one is in a state of purity and facing the qiblah (direction of prayer) at that time, that is among the causes of response. So I advise you both to make du'a' to Allah, to be humble before Him, and to ask Him, the Exalted, with sincerity, devotion, humility, and brokenness of heart, to grant you good offspring. This is among the most beneficial treatments and the greatest of causes. May Allah guide them all.
The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
