The ruling on saying: “Be quiet, may Allah have mercy on you” after the Friday adhan

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Our brother says in his last question: When the khatib ascends the minbar, the adhan begins on Friday. Immediately after the adhan, the fifth imam stands up and says: “From Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said:
When the Imam is delivering the Khutba, and you ask your companion to keep quiet and listen, then no doubt you have done an evil act.
Sahih al-Bukhari 934
Be quiet, may Allah have mercy on you, be quiet, may Allah have mercy on you, be quiet, may Allah have mercy on you.” After completing this hadith, he sits down, and the imam stands up to begin the Friday khutbah. Knowing that this is repeated every Friday, please give us a ruling on this? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
This practice has no basis in the Shari'ah; rather, it is a bid'ah (religious innovation) because a person stands up and says: “O people!” and recites the hadith, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said:
If you say to your companions: ‘Be quiet’ on a Friday while the Imam is delivering the sermon, you have engaged in Laghw (idle talk or behaviour).
Sunan Ibn Majah 1110Sahih (Darussalam)
This has no basis, and it was not what the Muslims did in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) nor in the time of the Rightly Guided Caliphs. Rather, it is among the innovations. Indeed, when the mu'adhdhin calls the adhan on Friday, the khatib stands up and preaches to the people, and there is no one who alerts the people and says to them: “Be quiet,” neither by reciting the hadith nor by any other means. This is among the newly invented matters that have no basis.
It is obligatory (wajib) for the one who innovated it to abandon it and to repent to Allah for that, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.
Sahih Muslim 1718b
, and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever introduces into our matter—meaning: into our religion—what is not part of it, it is rejected.
meaning: it is rejected.
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say in the Friday khutbah:
The best of the speech is embodied in the Book of Allah, and the best of the guidance is the guidance given by Muhammad. And the most evil affairs are their innovations; and every innovation is error.
Sahih Muslim 867a
Muslim narrated it in his Sahih.
Therefore, it is obligatory (wajib) for the people of Islam to adhere to the Sunnah in everything, to follow it, to advise one another to it, and to beware of the bid'ah (religious innovations) that people have introduced. Among these is what you mentioned, which is done among you before the khutbah, where a person stands up and recites the hadith known from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “If you say to your companions: ‘Be quiet’ on a Friday while the Imam is delivering the sermon, you have engaged in Laghw (idle talk or behaviour).”
Sunan Ibn Majah 1110Sahih (Darussalam)
Then he repeats, saying: “Be quiet, be quiet.” All of this has no basis, as you have heard. We ask Allah for guidance and success for everyone in following the Sunnah.

The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
