The Ruling on the Prayer of Greeting the Mosque in the Times of Prohibition
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A message was sent from the Libyan Jamahiriya by the listener Mufattah Muhammad al-Tunisi. He asks a number of questions, one of which says: In the Maghrib prayer, when the worshipper comes for the Maghrib prayer and enters the mosque, is he required to pray the greeting of the mosque or not? And does he pray it after finishing the Maghrib prayer?
Answer:
It is the Sunnah for one who enters the mosque to pray two rak'ahs as the greeting of the mosque, whether it is Maghrib or other than Maghrib, even if it is at the end of the day before sunset; he prays the greeting of the mosque. This is because it is one of the prayers with a cause; it has no time of prohibition. He prays two rak'ahs and then sits. This is called the greeting of the mosque. If he enters the mosque before the prayer, before sunset, before the iqamah of the prayer, he prays these two rak'ahs.
As for the regular Sunnah of Maghrib, it is two rak'ahs after Maghrib. Likewise, the regular Sunnah of 'Isha' is two rak'ahs after 'Isha'. But the greeting of the mosque is for the mosque; it has no connection to the Maghrib prayer. If he enters the mosque at any time and he is in a state of wudu, he prays two rak'ahs, whether it is 'Asr, Zuhr, night, or day.
Likewise, the prayer of the eclipse: if the sun is eclipsed at midday, in the morning, or in the afternoon, he prays the prayer of the eclipse, because it is one of the prayers with a cause. Similarly, if he performs tawaf after 'Asr or after Fajr, he prays the two rak'ahs of tawaf, because it is one of the prayers with a cause.
