Ruling on gathering to send blessings upon the Prophet with a loud voice

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A listener from Taif sent a message containing several questions. His brother in Islam, Salih al-Hajj Jisr al-Rimi al-Yamani, our brother, says in one of his questions: We have customs and traditions that contradict our noble Islamic Shari'ah. Among these customs is the following: People gather on Friday before the Friday prayer and send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with a loud, collective voice. Then they call for aid to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and to the righteous awliya (close friends of Allah) using phrases like, "Something for Allah, O Messenger of Allah! Something for Allah, O awliya of Allah! Something for Allah, O believing men of Allah! Aid us, help us, grant us care," and similar phrases. He seeks guidance? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
As for gathering to send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with a collective voice or a loud voice, this is a bid'ah (religious innovation). What is prescribed (mashru') for Muslims is to send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) without raising the voice in a strange, blameworthy manner, and without doing so collectively. Each person sends blessings between himself and himself, saying: "O Allah, send blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad," and so on. He sends blessings between himself and himself; because on Friday it is prescribed to increase in sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), for he was commanded to do so. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Among the most excellent of your days is Friday; so invoke many blessings on me on that day, for your blessing will be submitted to me.
Sunan Abi Dawud 1531Sahih (Al-Albani)
It was said: "O Messenger of Allah! Our blessings are presented to you, and you have died"—meaning: you have been afflicted. He said:
for Allah has forbidden the earth to consume the bodies of the Prophetsإن الله حرم على الأرض أن تأكل أجساد الأنبياء
Sunan Ibn Majah 1637Da’if (Darussalam)
.
The point is that he (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed for us to increase in sending blessings and peace upon him on Friday. It is prescribed for us to increase in this in the mosque and elsewhere, but each person sends blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) between himself and himself, with the known, prescribed forms of blessings, without doing so with a loud voice that disturbs those around him, or with a collective voice where the group speaks together. All of this is a bid'ah (religious innovation). But he sends blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) between himself and himself in his mosque, on his way, in his home, and in every place. And so it is in the remaining times; sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is prescribed even on days other than Friday, in the remaining times. Allah the Exalted says:
Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.
[Al-Ahzab: 56]. O Allah, send blessings and peace upon him, a continuous blessing and peace until the Day of Judgment. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who blesses me once, Allah would bless him ten times.
Sahih Muslim 408
.
So I, you, and the others, each of us is prescribed to send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), for both men and women alike. But in the manner that Muslims have followed, that the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and those who followed them with excellence have followed. Each person sends blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) between himself and himself, without needing to raise his voice so as to occupy those around him, and without needing to be with a group with a collective voice. No.
As for calling for aid to the prophets, or to the people of good, or to the awliya (close friends of Allah), this is shirk akbar (major shirk). This is the greatest and most terrifying thing. It is not permissible. One does not say: "O men of the unseen... something for Allah," or "O awliya of Allah! Something for Allah," or "O Messenger of Allah! Something for Allah," or "Aid us," or "Help us," or "Support us." All of this is munkar (what is wrong) and shirk akbar (major shirk) with Allah . Allah the Exalted says in His great Book:
And whoever invokes besides Allah another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.
[Al-Mu'minun: 117]. He called it kufr (disbelief). He said :
That is Allah, your Lord; to Him belongs sovereignty. And those whom you invoke other than Him do not possess [as much as] the membrane of a date seed.
[Fatir 35:13]
"If you call them, they will not hear your call, and even if they did hear, they would not respond to you. And on the Day of Resurrection, they will disavow your shirk" [Fatir: 13-14]. Allah called it shirk (associating partners with Allah).
So it is obligatory to be cautious of this. And Allah the Exalted says:
so do not invoke with Allah anyone.
[Al-Jinn: 18]. And He, Exalted and Majestic is He, says:
Call upon Me; I will respond to you.
[Ghafir: 60].
So Allah is the One who is called upon , the One who is asked, the One who removes distress, and the One who brings benefit . So you say: "O my Lord! Heal me," "O my Lord! Help me," "O my Lord! Guide me to the straight path," "O my Lord! Rectify my heart and my deeds," "O my Lord! Let me die a Muslim." You call upon your Lord:
And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you."
[Ghafir: 60]. And He the Exalted says:
And ask Allah of His bounty.
[An-Nisa: 32]. And He, Exalted and Majestic is He, says:
And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Meوَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيبٌ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ الدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ
[Al-Baqarah: 186]. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Supplication is worship
.
So it is obligatory for Muslims, men and women, to increase in du'a' (supplication) and to be eager for du'a' (supplication), calling upon Allah, Exalted and Majestic is He, and humbling themselves to Him in all needs .
As for calling upon the prophets, or the awliya (close friends of Allah), or other people at their graves or in places far from them, all of this is munkar (what is wrong). It is all shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah and major kufr (disbelief). One must be cautious of it, like what the questioner mentioned: "O servants of Allah, O prophets of Allah! O Prophet of Allah! Help us, aid us, support us." All of this is shirk akbar (major shirk). Allah, Exalted and Majestic is He, says:
Indeed, association [with him] is great injustice."إِنَّ الشِّرْكَ لَظُلْمٌ عَظِيمٌ
[Luqman: 13]. And He the Exalted says:
But if they had associated others with Allah, then worthless for them would be whatever they were doing.
[Al-An'am: 88]. And He, Exalted and Majestic is He, addresses His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him):
And it was already revealed to you and to those before you that if you should associate [anything] with Allah, your work would surely become worthless, and you would surely be among the losers."وَلَقَدْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ وَإِلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ لَئِنْ أَشْرَكْتَ لَيَحْبَطَنَّ عَمَلُكَ وَلَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ
[Az-Zumar: 65]. So the matter is great. And He the Exalted says:
But if they had associated others with Allah, then worthless for them would be whatever they were doing.
[Al-An'am: 88].
So it is obligatory to be cautious, and it is obligatory for every Muslim, and everyone who claims Islam, and every person of legal age, to worship Allah alone and to single Him out for worship, excluding everything else from that:
And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Himوَقَضَى رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ
[Al-Isra: 23]
It is You we worship and You we ask for help.
[Al-Fatihah: 5]. So do not ask a prophet, or a wali (close friend of Allah), or a tree, or a stone, or an idol, or anything else. Do not ask him for any need, whether support, healing for a sick person, or anything else. Rather, ask Allah the Exalted for all your needs. This is tawhid (the oneness of Allah). This is the religion. This is Islam: to direct your requests and needs to Allah, and to worship Him alone with your du'a' (supplication), your salah (the ritual prayer), your sawm (fasting), and your other acts of worship.
As for the created being, even if he is great, like the prophets, he is not called upon besides Allah, nor is aid sought from him, nor is a vow made to him, nor is a sacrifice slaughtered for him. So Muslims must understand this well. Every person must understand this well and know that this matter is great. And the foundation of the religion of Islam and the basis of the religion of Islam is the sincerity of worship for Allah alone. And this is the meaning of: "La ilaha illa Allah" (There is no deity but Allah). For its meaning is: There is no true object of worship except Allah. So Allah the Exalted is the One who is called upon, the One who is asked, as He said :
And your God is one God; there is no deity except He, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.
[Al-Baqarah: 163]
Your god is only Allah, except for whom there is no deity. He has encompassed all things in knowledge."إِنَّمَا إِلَهُكُمُ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَسِعَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عِلْمًا
[Ta-Ha: 98].
So the error in this matter is very great. It is not permissible to be lenient with it, because it is the shirk (associating partners with Allah) of the jahiliyyah (the pre-Islamic age of ignorance), the shirk of the first polytheists. Because it is the opposite of Islam, the opposite of "La ilaha illa Allah." So it is obligatory to be cautious of these acts of shirk. And you, O questioner! Must warn your people, convey this to them, and guide them to listen to this program so that they benefit from the great good in it. This program, "Nur 'ala al-Darb" (Light on the Path), contains great good and many benefits. It contains tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and the rulings of the Shari'ah. So I advise and counsel all Muslims to listen to this program in every place, in this kingdom and outside of it. I advise all Muslims and all persons of legal age to listen to this program and to take care of it so that they benefit from it, and so that they convey it to their other brothers, men and women, so that they benefit. And, by the praise of Allah, it is a program where what Allah said, His Messenger said. It is not of opinions. It is a program in which the scholars explain what Allah and His Messenger said regarding His tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and the rulings of His Shari'ah. We ask Allah for guidance and success for everyone.
