How a Woman Seeks Knowledge

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
How can a woman seek knowledge while she is in her home? And is reading books and listening to lectures via tapes considered seeking knowledge?

Answer:
Yes, listening to tapes, academic seminars, and *Nur 'ala al-Darb* from the Quran Radio, all of this is seeking knowledge. Reading beneficial books, and asking scholars via telephone, or via correspondence, all of this is among the means of knowledge, and among the acquisition of knowledge; for Allah the Exalted says:
So ask the people of the message if you do not know.فَاسْأَلُوا أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ لا تَعْلَمُونَ
[Al-Nahl: 43], and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
he who treads the path in search of knowledge, Allah would make that path easy, leading to Paradise for himمن سلك طريقًا يلتمس فيه علمًا سهل الله له به طريقًا إلى الجنة
Sahih Muslim 2699a
, and he did not specify one path over another.
So asking scholars via telephone, via correspondence, or in person, all of this is seeking knowledge. Reading beneficial books is seeking knowledge, and listening to the Quran, and reading the Quran frequently, is among the greatest means of knowledge; for the Quran is the Book of Allah, it is the greatest evidence for knowledge, and it is the greatest guide. One should read the Quran frequently with reflection, understanding, and asking about what is unclear. All of this is among the paths of knowledge.
And the Quran Radio is among the best causes. I advise you to pay attention to the Quran Radio to listen to the beneficial knowledge broadcast on it, and *Nur 'ala al-Darb*, and the many topics. Yes.

The presenter: Thank you, O Shaykh, and may Allah bless you and your knowledge, and benefit the Muslims through you.
