Will a woman be gathered with her husband on the Day of Resurrection?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We have learned that if a woman is righteous, she will be gathered with her husband on the Day of Resurrection. But if her husband is from the people of the Fire—may Allah protect us from that—where will her righteous wife be? And with whom will she be gathered?
Answer:
The Shaykh: Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Saffat: 22]. This does not mean their wives. Their "wives" are their counterparts and peers in evil deeds, or in good deeds.
And similarly, His saying: [Al-Takwir: 7] means: every person is paired with their companion, and the one who does their deed.
So His saying, Exalted is He:[As-Saffat 37:22] does not mean their wives. No, the meaning of "their wives" is their counterparts and peers. So if Zayd and 'Amr are equal, he is his "wife," equal in deed. So their "wives" are their counterparts and peers in good and evil deeds. These wrongdoers will be gathered with their counterparts in shirk (associating partners with Allah) and corruption, just as the believers will be gathered with their counterparts toward Paradise and happiness.
As for the husband and wife, they have another matter: if the husband and wife are both righteous, they will both be from the people of Paradise. As for whether she will be married to him or not, that is another matter, and Allah the Majestic and Exalted knows it best. She may have husbands—the woman—so it is not certain that she will be with so-and-so or so-and-so.
It has come in a hadith with weakness in its chain, narrated by al-Tabarani and a group: that the wife will be given the choice if she has husbands, and she will choose the best of them in character when she enters Paradise. But there is weakness and criticism in its chain.
So the point is that if she has husbands, Allah knows best with whom of them she will be. And similarly, if she has only one husband, Allah knows best: will she be with him in Paradise, or will she be higher than him, or will he be higher than her, or will she be married to someone else? This is up to Allah, Exalted is He. We do not have a clear text in this regard.
