Does the husband's mother have any right over the wife?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : First: We love you for the sake of Allah, O Shaykh. The question is—may Allah reward you with good—is it that the husband's mother has a right over the wife?

The Shaykh : No, the husband's mother has no right over the wife. However, it is a matter of good conduct and kindness, and this leads to the husband's affection for his wife, that she should look after her interests, serve her in easy matters, and when she wakes up in the morning, may Allah bless you, O so-and-so, or O mother of so-and-so, or O my aunt, in a way that is not contradictory. And this is good.
As for it being obligatory, no, because the mutual treatment between husband and wife is to be with good conduct.
And peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
