Is there zakah on a loan?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is there zakah on a loan?

Answer:
Yes, if a loan comes into your possession and a lunar year passes over it, you must pay zakah on it. It has become wealth in your possession. If you borrow one thousand riyals, or two thousand, or one hundred thousand, or more from Zayd, and a lunar year passes while it is with you, you must pay zakah on it. This is because it is your property; it is wealth belonging to you, and it has become a debt upon you to your brother. Therefore, you must pay zakah on it just as you pay zakah on other wealth that came to you through gifts or bequests, or through other lawful means.
