The questioner: We just prayed 'Isha', and the imam forgot to perform the second prostration in the third rak'ah!

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner: So what is the ruling on the prayer, and what must he do after that?

The Shaykh: Tell me what he did?

The questioner : Yes, our Shaykh?

The Shaykh: Explain what he did after that. He forgot the second prostration, and then what did he do?

The questioner: The imam prostrated twice before the taslim. After he finished the prayer, they told him: You must perform a rak'ah. So he stood up and performed a new rak'ah, which was the fifth rak'ah, then prostrated twice before the taslim, then said the taslim.

The Shaykh: The prayer is proceeding, but was it sufficient for him, since he forgot the second prostration in the last rak'ah?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: He forgot the second prostration in the last rak'ah?

The questioner: Yes, the second prostration.

The Shaykh: He had to perform that prostration which he forgot.

The questioner: No, our Shaykh, he forgot in the third rak'ah!

The Shaykh : Listen, may Allah guide you.

The questioner: In the fourth, he remained standing.

The Shaykh : There is no power nor strength except with Allah!

The questioner: In the third rak'ah, he stood up and they said to him, "Subhan Allah," so he remained standing and did not go back.

The Shaykh: Yes, so what he did.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: And that was that he came with a complete rak'ah.

The questioner: This was after the prayer.

The Shaykh: What he did is the correct thing.

The questioner: That he came with a new rak'ah?

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner: I mean, our Shaykh, is the second or first prostration a pillar? Is this correct?

The Shaykh: No, it is not correct. If it were not correct, what am I telling you?! Because he did not come with the prostration, the rak'ah became invalid.

The questioner: May Allah bless you, you have done well. So for this reason, he comes with a rak'ah, then prostrates twice before the taslim?

The Shaykh: Before the taslim or after the taslim, it is not important.

The questioner: The important thing is that he comes with a rak'ah.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner: May Allah bless you and prolong your life, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : May Allah preserve you.

The questioner: Pray for us.

The Shaykh: Successful in all good.

The questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.
