Ruling on selling tiger skins after hunting them
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on a man who hunts tigers and sells their skins, and eats from the price? If it is forbidden, what does he do about what has already passed?
Answer:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the skins of wild beasts, and the tiger is among the wild beasts. What appears to be the case is that he must repent of that. So whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance. Allah said regarding usury or interest: [Surat al-Baqarah: 275]
So if he repents for what has passed, we hope that Allah will forgive him, and he is not required to account for what has passed, or for what came to him from these things. Rather, Allah will forgive him, if Allah wills. And if he wishes to give out of his wealth what he estimates... what came to him, out of scrupulousness, and out of doing good to the poor, or to charitable projects; that is fine.
As for obligation, the apparent view, and Allah knows best, is that nothing is required of him; because he did it out of ignorance and lack of knowledge. So when the knowledge came to him, he stopped, and he repented, and praise be to Allah.

But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest. So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord and desists may have what is past, and his affair rests with Allah. But whoever returns to [dealing in interest or usury] - those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein.
