Matters Resulting from Breastfeeding

All the children of a husband from his four wives, and likewise his children from wives before them or after them, are all brothers to him. All the children of the nursing woman are brothers to him, provided the breastfeeding is lawful, meaning five feedings within the two-year period, five feedings or more. If a child has been breastfed five times or more by a woman, he is her son. All her children, whether from this man or from another, before him or after him, are all brothers to this breastfed child.
Likewise, for a man who has wives, all his children are brothers to the breastfed child who was breastfed by one of his wives. They are all his brothers for this breastfed child. He becomes their paternal uncle regarding the children of the males, and their maternal uncle regarding the children of the females. This is because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Just as children of blood relation are brothers, so too are children of breastfeeding brothers.
