Jihad of Women: Hajj and 'Umrah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A message was sent by one of the female listeners. The sender is a teacher. It appears that our sister is seeking ways to do good, O Shaykh. She says: I am a committed young woman, and Allah has guided me to the path of truth and made faith beloved to my heart, until I became eager to advance in every righteous deed that brings me closer to Allah. However, there are righteous deeds I have not been able to reach because I am a woman. For example, the status of the one who strives in the cause of Allah is exalted in the sight of Allah, and I love to be in their rank. The strange thing is that the prophets and the righteous rejoiced in the mujahideen because of their great status with Allah, and they were on minbars of light. My question is: Is there a deed for a woman that equals the status of the mujahid, whether the woman is married or unmarried? And if a woman desires jihad and then Allah takes her life, is she recorded in the rank of the martyrs? She has other questions in this vein, O Shaykh. I hope we can present them?
Answer: I hope for you, O sister in Allah, great good, and that the reward of the mujahideen be written for you. For when a servant intends good and is prevented by a legal barrier or a physical barrier, such as illness, the reward of those who act is written for him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith regarding the expedition of Tabuk:
Indeed, in Madinah there are people whom you do not travel a journey or cross a valley except that they are with you. An excuse held them back. They said: O Messenger of Allah! And they are in Madinah? He said: And they are in Madinah.
.
In the other wording:
they shared with you in the rewardإلا شركوكم في الأجر
Sunan Ibn Majah 2765Sahih (Darussalam)
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed, if a servant falls ill or travels, Allah writes for him what he used to do while he was healthy and resident.
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 5:6
.
This is from the favor of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And he said in the authentic hadith:
The world is for four people. Then he mentioned the first: a man to whom Allah gave wealth and gave him knowledge, so he fears Allah in his wealth, maintains his ties of kinship in it, and acts in it according to the requirement of knowledge. So this one is in the highest ranks. And a man to whom Allah gave knowledge but did not give him wealth, so he used to say: If I had wealth like so-and-so, I would do in it like his deed. He said: So this one is by his intention. They are equal in reward.
.
So you... The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said when 'A'ishah said:
O Messenger of Allah! We see that jihad is the best of deeds. Should we not strive? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Your jihad is one in which there is no fighting: Hajj and 'Umrah.
, "Your jihad is Hajj and 'Umrah." So if Hajj or 'Umrah becomes easy for you and your husband agrees to it, this is jihad for you. And you must strive with wealth if you have wealth, by assisting them with wealth according to your ability, so that you have the reward of striving with wealth. You give from your wealth what you can to the entities that receive money for the mujahideen, and you will have the share of the mujahideen and the reward of the mujahideen with wealth.
And we hope for you also the reward of the mujahideen with their persons, because the legal excuse prevented you from jihad with the person, which is the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)... because...:
Upon them is a Jihad in which there is no fighting: Al-Hajj and Al-‘Umrah.
Sunan Ibn Majah 2901Sahih (Darussalam)
And Allah has waived from you jihad with the person and made obligatory upon you jihad with Hajj and 'Umrah and wealth, as in the other texts, due to His saying:
Go forth, whether light or heavy, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the cause of Allah
[At-Tawbah: 41]
The scholars differed on whether a woman has an obligation of jihad with wealth, with two opinions. The closest and stronger opinion is that she has an obligation of jihad with wealth; because she is included in the general wording. If she has wealth and she has sufficiency, she strives from her wealth while performing what Allah has made easy for her of Hajj and 'Umrah. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah bless you. Our sister, O Shaykh, focuses on the fact that she is a woman. What I understood from your eminence is that even though she is a woman, when she makes her intention good, she has what men have...
The Shaykh: Yes, yes, because the legal excuse prevented her. So if she leaves jihad for the sake of the legal excuse, and she desires it and wants it, were it not for this excuse, Allah would write for her the reward of the mujahideen. Like the old man and the sick person, if the excuse is what holds him back and he wants jihad, were it not for the excuse, Allah would write for him the reward of the mujahideen. Praise be to Allah, this is His favor (Glorified and Exalted is He).
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good. It is as if the Shaykh is saying: If a woman makes her intention good, she may reach ranks that men do not reach.
The Shaykh: Yes, by her intention.
The presenter: May Allah bless you. May Allah reward you with good.
The Shaykh: Yes.
